Allen Engineering M24 Suppressor
The Allen Engineering M24 Suppressor represents the contemporary iteration of the OPS INC 3rd model. This suppressor serves as the foundational design from which all subsequent Allen Engineering suppressors have evolved, having undergone modifications and reductions in size over the years. Its designation, the Allen Engineering M24, is derived from its application with the M24 rifle system.
In the late 1980s, OPS Inc. received a contract from the US Army to modify the M24 sniper rifle. The updated design featured a flange or taper on the barrel, which served as a support for the OPS Inc. 3rd model, facilitating the innovative over-the-barrel suppressor developed by Phil Seberger. This design primarily aimed to enable the easy removal of the suppressor for storage in a rifle case, while ensuring that it could be reattached accurately to maintain zero alignment.
The OPS Inc. 3rd Model not only achieved this functionality but also included a gas block at the rear. It is difficult to envision today, but during the era of the M24A2 and the OPS Inc. 3rd Model suppressor, OPS Inc. was at the forefront of suppressor technology, with the US Military driving advancements throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
The Allen Engineering M24 features a .30 caliber baffle stack, which is also utilized in systems such as the AEM5-30, along with an extended direct thread mount. Typically, it is affixed to a barrel that has been specifically shaped to accommodate the suppressor without the need for additional hardware; however, an SPR style collar can also be employed on narrower barrels.
