L3Harris BNVD AN/PVS-31A
The L3Harris BNVD AN/PVS-31A Binocular Night Vision Device, referred to in military terms as AN/PVS-31A, is a compact and lightweight Generation III night vision goggle featuring a high-performance white phosphor dual-tube system. Its ergonomic low-profile design enhances situational awareness when compared to single-tube goggles. Developed with input from Special Forces operators, the BNVD AN/PVS-31A aims to enhance system resolution, minimize head-borne weight, and optimize the system’s center of gravity.
The L3Harris BNVD AN/PVS-31A can be powered by either an onboard AA battery or the provided battery pack. Its lightweight design eliminates the need for a counterweight, allowing the user to achieve balance simply by utilizing the battery pack. Additionally, the battery pack features an integrated infrared strobe for signaling and aerial identification, which is activated by a single switch located on the back. A notable advantage of using the battery pack is the rapid deployment of the goggles. With the L3Harris BNVD AN/PVS-31A, the user can easily attach the dovetail to a Wilcox G24 mount, connect the battery cable to the housing’s battery pack port, and begin using the goggles.
The L3Harris BNVD AN/PVS-31A is designed with an articulating housing that includes independently rotating optical pods, enabling the user to deploy both tubes or just one. This feature is particularly beneficial for users who are utilizing their night vision device in conjunction with a thermal device. Furthermore, the articulation of the optical pods allows users to stow their goggles without needing to flip them up on the helmet mount, thereby minimizing snag hazards and reducing the overall height added to the helmet.
The L3Harris BNVD AN/PVS-31A utilizes unfilmed white phosphor autogated image intensifier tubes, each featuring a minimum Figure of Merit (FOM) rating of 2376 directly from the factory. These unfilmed tubes deliver exceptional clarity, superior performance in both low and high light conditions, and enhanced depth perception. Representing L3’s most advanced intensifier technology, they provide substantial performance improvements compared to other white phosphor systems.

The iconic PVS-31 night vision device has no comparison. Used by military and law enforcement for the most important missions means something. I paid a lot of money for these and they did not disappoint! The proprietary optics on these coupled with the L3Harris extremely high quality tubes have no comparison. I do have great vision, so not having adjustable diopters isn’t an issue for me. Highly recommend to anyone looking for the highest quality night vision device on the market!
