The AB Night Vision RNVG-A Ruggedized Night Vision Goggle Articulating is a highly durable, fully equipped night vision binocular. Its housing is crafted from aircraft-grade aluminum through a billet machining process, ensuring it can withstand demanding real-world conditions. During drop tests, the housing significantly surpassed the military standards outlined in MIL-STD-810H, enduring impacts from heights that would typically compromise lenses and image intensifiers when dropped onto bare concrete.

The design of the AB Night Vision RNVG-A incorporates push-button controls for power and an Infrared Illuminator. The button for the IR illuminator is protected by a uniquely contoured guard to prevent accidental activation. Additionally, indicators within the viewing area inform the user if the IR illuminator is active or if the device detects a low battery status. The unit can be powered by an onboard CR123A battery or through an auxiliary power source using a 4-pin LEMO style connector.

The optics of the AB Night Vision RNVG-A provide a comprehensive range of adjustments. The Mil-Spec objectives enable focusing from 9.8 inches to infinity, while the Mil-Spec eyepieces allow for diopter adjustments ranging from -6 to +2. Its articulating design facilitates quick adjustments for Interpupillary Distance, accommodating measurements from 47mm to over 80mm. Each optical pod on the AB Night Vision RNVG-A can be rotated upward, allowing the user to maintain natural vision as needed.

Additionally, when the device is mounted on a helmet and in the stowed position, the optical pods can be flattened against the helmet, reducing neck strain and providing better protection for both the goggles and the user from overhead impacts. The optical pods automatically deactivate when raised, preventing any illumination on the helmet when one side is lifted and ensuring that the image intensifiers are turned off when the pods are folded back against the helmet. The force needed to swing the optical pods can be adjusted by the user with the use of a coin.
